Full Denture Implants in Southern California
Full dentures are replacement teeth that are placed on an acrylic base that is designed to resemble your gums. Upper dentures have a plate that covers the roof of your mouth, and lower dentures are horseshoe-shaped and sit securely on the gum and bone structures. Complete dentures are usually fitted 8-12 weeks after the teeth have been extracted/removed. A whole mouth denture implant, which is as permanent as real tooth roots, stimulates the bone within the jaw and stabilizes the artificial tooth crown. Full denture implants are extremely robust and can last a lifetime if properly cared for, which is why dentists advise patients to avoid chewing or biting hard foods in order to protect the artificial teeth.
Full mouth denture implants keep the remaining natural teeth from shifting and causing misalignment issues with one's bite, as well as preventing wear and strain on neighboring teeth that would otherwise need to be trimmed for a bridge or denture that does not have a root to attach to these natural teeth. When normal teeth perform double duty in sustaining the bite pressure of the artificial denture and bridge, the natural teeth become weaker. Full mouth denture implants are a viable alternative to traditional bridges or full dentures for filling the gap left by tooth loss. The bone and gum that grow around the titanium dental implant provide the implant with its strength. Implants do not require the regular replacement that dentures or bridges do. Much like natural teeth, a complete set of full denture implants can last up to 30 years if cared for properly.
As you get older, your mouth changes, which might alter the fit of your full denture or partial denture. Your bone ridges may recede, creating a space beneath your denture. Cunning Dental Group does not recommend adjusting your denture yourself because you can affect both the denture and your health. If your removable partial denture breaks, cracks, chips, or one of the teeth gets loose, immediately contact us. Schedule an appointment with Cunning Dental Group here!
